Gum disease is quiet. It does not usually hurt until it is advanced, and it is the leading reason adults lose teeth. Deep cleaning removes the hardened bacteria under the gumline and smooths the root so the gum can reattach.
We numb the area properly. Most people are surprised by how uneventful it is.

Why can't I just have a regular cleaning?+
A regular cleaning works above the gumline. Once pockets form, the bacteria live below it, and cleaning the top of the tooth leaves the problem in place.
Safety & what to expect
Teeth can be temperature-sensitive for a week or two afterwards. Gums may look like they have receded slightly, which is the swelling going down rather than new loss.
