Tooth-Colored Fillings

Composite fillings bonded into the tooth and shaded to match it, for new decay or for replacing old silver work that has started to leak.

Composite bonds to the tooth, so less healthy structure has to be removed than with a metal filling that relies on being wedged in place.

We use rubber isolation and cure in layers. It takes a few minutes longer and it is the difference between a filling that lasts and one that fails in three years.

What patients notice

  • Matched to the tooth, invisible in conversation
  • Less drilling than silver fillings need
  • Set hard immediately, so no waiting to eat
  • No mercury

Questions

Should I replace my old silver fillings?+

Only if they are leaking, cracked, or the tooth is breaking down around them. A sound amalgam that is doing its job is better left alone, and we will say so.
